Water filtration redefined
At its core, Cerafiltec’s mission is to deliver robust, long-lasting water treatment solutions that reduce waste, improve performance, and support a more sustainable future.
Our Story & Mission
Cerafiltec’s mission was born out of frustration and transformed into innovation. Established in 2016 in Germany by two experienced water-treatment professionals, the company set out to solve a persistent problem: the failure of conventional polymeric and traditional ceramic membranes in real-world conditions. Constant replacements every 3–5 years not only disrupted operations but also contributed significant amounts of plastic waste to landfills.
Determined to break this cycle, the founders committed to a clear and ambitious goal: to create a new generation of membrane technology that is both highly durable and reliable under the toughest conditions. The result was Cerafiltec’s ceramic flat-sheet membranes, engineered to last more than 20 years and perform consistently even in the dirtiest feed waters.

Sustainability
Cerafiltec's commitment to a sustainable future is embodied in our mission: Water filtration. Redefined. This vision is not only about water quality, but also about how that water is treated, responsibly, efficiently, and with minimal environmental impact.
At the core of this sustainability approach are Cerafiltec’s durable ceramic membranes. Unlike conventional polymeric (plastic-based) membranes, ceramic membranes are designed for long-term use, significantly reducing the need for frequent replacement. This durability directly supports a circular economy by minimizing material consumption and waste generation over time.
The environmental advantage becomes clear when comparing lifecycle impacts. A single Cerafiltec module (6 m²) prevents approximately 11 kg of plastic waste over a 10-year period. When scaled to a full treatment plant, the impact is substantial: an average installation can eliminate between 8 and 12 tons of plastic waste over the same period. This is based on real plant comparisons, where 200 m² of polymeric membranes can be replaced by just 33 m² of ceramic membranes, achieving the same function with far less material and waste.
By replacing disposable plastic components with long-lasting ceramic solutions, Cerafiltec not only improves operational efficiency but also significantly reduces environmental burden. This shift from “replace and discard” to “durable and sustainable” is a key step toward more responsible water treatment infrastructure.
In this way, we go beyond providing clean water, we redefine how water treatment systems can contribute to a more sustainable, resource-efficient future.
